Fall Back, Spring Forward

No, it's not daylight savings time, it's Spring Market time! We haven't even received all of our Fall 2009 items and we have already returned from our Spring 2010 buying trip. You might think it's hard to get excited for a new season of tanks, shorts and sundresses, as most of you are just beginning to purchase sweaters, tights and jackets. And I might agree, however after seeing all the goodies that are available for Spring, it's not hard to change your tune! We were completely WOWWED with some our favorites lines, like Catimini, Room Seven, and Mim-Pi. But even more exciting are the fresh, new designers we found to bring in. Spring Pre-orders will start early January, so save that Christmas money!

Here are some of the Spring trends to watch out for!

New Colors: Navy, Navy, Navy! What would Spring be without the traditional nautical influence? However, this Spring you will find a twist on the classic: navy mixed with lime greens, pinks and bright yellows. In addition, you will find absolutely stunning shades of coral, in both prints and solids.

New Body Styles: Highwaisted dresses with bow belts, flutter sleeves and bubble sleeves on tops and dresses, and rompers - a welcome throw-back to the 70's.

New Themes: Folkloric embroidery on shirts and dresses, butterflies and deers, and lots of dots!

What a Doll!

If your child enjoys playing with dolls; then she’s going to love these clothes. New for us this Fall, Lourdes is a line of children’s clothing that is both fashionable AND fun! Cute designs are adorned with fun motifs and removable dolls and are sure to be a hit!

The Lourdes brand, established over a decade ago in Portugal, quickly became known for their small decorative, hand painted articles. Their originality and creativity gained such recognition that they soon added a children’s collection. Always creating with a base of natural materials such as cotton, linen or wool their exclusive designs have created a distinguished style of dress for children.

But what makes these pieces so special, are the dolls that can easily be removed by snaps! The snaps are very solid, yet manageable for even small hands.

Misha Lulu

Misha Lulu is a family owned and operated fashion brand, founded by Joe and Karen Salazar. Karen, a native of El Salvador, came to the United States in the late '80's to study fashion design. She married Joe Salazar, a graphic designer, and moved to South Pasadena with their daughter Isabela.

Inspired by her faith, Latin culture, motherhood and her European travels, Karen was determined to leave corporate America, and in 2005 she created her very own collection of t-shirts that reflected the Salazar's love for art, nature and family. The result was Misha Lulu, the name Karen gave to her imaginary friend when she was growing up in El Salvador.

Since then, Misha Lulu has grown from a small t-shirt collection to a cohesive multi-category lifestyle brand which is designed using organic fabrics, original graphics, fun prints and exciting silhouettes, which have truly positioned themselves in the toddler market. The Misha Lulu character has now come to life through the Misha Lulu clothing line and serves as the inspiration behind it. You are going to fall in love with Misha Lulu!

We have just received the first two groupings for this season and they are truly unique. The first is a carnival of pinks and blues, abounding with elephants and polka dots. My favorite piece from this group is called the Elephanito Jumper:

The second grouping is called Prairie Misha. Inspired by nature, it has an organic feel with brown ginghams, red strawberries, blue birds and cute mushrooms. A new silhouette for Misha Lulu this season is called the Afternoon Dress, perfect for a summer day:

Why the Chicken Crossed the Road

From Earnshaws Magazine, February 2009 edition

Just two years after Pink Chicken launched it's bohemian-inspired girls' line, the New York apparel company is opening its first store. "Everything for us has happened organically," said owner/designer Stacey Frase, whose business began above her garage in Amagansett, N.Y., where she and her family spend their summers. This May, Fraser will open a 200-square-foot Hamptons boutique in a former ice cream shop on Main Street. "The location is ideal not only because it's close to [the] summer home", she said, "but because the area's laid-back resort feel echoes Pink Chicken's aesthetic." The line offers '60's inspired print dresses, rompers and diaper covers as well as knits and leggings for girls sizes 12 months to 8 years; Fraser has also added a handful of coordinating women's dresses.

We are so excited to be carrying this new and upcoming line at Darling Divas Boutique. We love the fresh fun styles and great prints. Check out Pink Chicken's unique styles at:

Tiers of Joy

It's as simple as adding a layer of fabric, but the result is often a dramatic silhouette and a visionary treat. Designers have been using tiers and layers for centuries, but you'll be pleasantly surprised to see the updated creations for this Spring. Styles can vary from a romantic tiered sundress, like the Delta dress from Room Seven:

a hip bohemian skirt, like the Anna skirt from Pink Chicken:

or a fun and flouncy skirt, like the Labo skirt from Catimini:

Regardless of the style you choose, it will surely be treasured by the little one in your life. And, I hope, fill you all with tiers of joy!

You can find these, and other examples of tiered clothing at our website:

Starting the Year off Fresh and New!

I love January first! What a fun and exciting day. You can start over, with all new resolutions (that haven't been broken) and everything seems fresh, new and clean! Also, this is the time when you start seeing signs of Spring in the stores. Out with the old and dark items and in with bright, cheery prints and colors! So, I'm thrilled to add four new lines to our expanding collection of Spring designs!

We now have one of my favorite lines available for pre-order, Misha Lulu! Misha Lulu is a family owned and operated clothing company. The designer, Karen Salazar, and her husband have created an infant and toddler brand inspired by their heritage and the Latin culture. The result is a retro-modern collection that is a reflection of faith, art and nature.

Another new line for us is Kids Ink, a collection of fun and fresh clothing for infants, toddlers and kids! Their signature designs and ultra-soft fabrics provide both great fashion and supreme comfort. Based in Southern California, the Kids Ink collection is inspired by pop art, whimsical fantasy, and an eclectic mix of cultures. This is a perfect line for your little fashionista and rockstar! And best of all... Kids Ink is proudly made in the USA!
